REQUIREMENTS FOR HIRING AND COLLECTING YOUR RENTAL CAR IN UGANDA

There are essential items you must have when hiring car for self-drive holiday in Uganda.

International Valid driving permit and credit card

In order to drive in Uganda if you are a foreigner, you must have an original and valid driving permit from your home country or an international driving license held for at least one year. A photocopy or temporary driving permit is not allowed. Thus it’s important to ask in advance and known what exactly to bring with you when collecting your car. In addition to the a valid driving permit, most car rental companies in Uganda require a credit card which is also presented as security bond and will be picked on returning the vehicle after finishing the trip.

Car rental agreement

This is a document that legally binds together the person hiring and the car rental company. When collecting your car, you will sign the agreement and provide your personal information as well agree on other important issues such as date of return, extra equipment, fuel policy and condition of the car.

Fuel policy

Concerning fueling the car, some car rental companies strictly use selected fuel stations such as Shell and Total. Therefore don’t risk and refuel your rental car at other unknown stations. Another thing to note is that a car is usually given to you with full tank and you must return it full.

Know your rental car insurance cover

Before renting a car for self-drive Uganda holiday, you need to obtain personal car insurance to cover up any unfortunate instances like accident and damage.It’s important to be aware of what’s included and excluded in your car rental insurance. For instance, third party will take care in case the damage caused by your vehicle toanother car or person.Thus it’s better to find out what’s not offered through the company you’re renting with.
