Suggested activity; gorilla trekking

Take a journey to Bwindi for gorilla trekking on self-drive adventure. Starting in Kampala or Entebbe, you will drive southwest to the one of the 4 gorilla centers of Bwindi (Buhoma, Rushaga, ruhija or Nkruingo) depending on where gorilla permits will be booked.

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is aUNESCO world heritage site home to half of the world’s mountain gorilla population, estimated to be over 420 individuals. There are 17 gorilla families habituated for tourism and the best time to track gorillas is during the dry season June to September and December to February.

On arrival, you will meet with one of our representative who will hand over a detailed pack tour to you and car once you sign the agreement. It includes itinerary and details of your accommodation, maps for your journey, GPS navigation system and driving instructions.

Day 1: Kampala to Bwindi impenetrable forest national park

Set off from Kampala in the morning for a 512 km journey to Bwindi which takes approximate 7-9 hour drive. Along the way, make a stopover at the equator for photos and proceed to Mbarara town for lunch at Igongo cultural center. Continuing on southwest, you will pass via scenic kigezi highlands to the gorilla center of choice. Dinner and overnight stayat lodge of choice.

Day 2: gorilla trekking and community walk

Start your day with breakfast and a cup of tea and get ready for gorilla tracking. Carry packed lunch, drinking water and head to the park visitor center for briefing on gorillas rules.

Visitors are divided into groups of 8 each allocated to one gorilla family and accompanied by expert guides and armed ranger in search of the gorillas on foot in the forest. Habituated gorillas are fearless of humans, which makes it possible for visitors to get up close encounters. Keep your cameras handy once gorillas are found, capture the rare images of the gorillas and learn about their natural behavior. Return back to the center where you left your car and receive a gorilla tracking certificate. Then have lunch at the lodge.

Later in the evening you may go for a walk in the community to learn about the local culture. Return back for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Departure

After your breakfast, drive back to Kampala city and drop off your rental car at the agreed place and continue your onward journey.
