Is a four wheel full time necessary in Uganda?

A four wheel drive is mandatory if you are going to most of the Uganda national parks. There are cars which are 4 Wheel Drive full time (best for long safaris) and those that are 2 Wheel Drive but can switch tires into 4wheel drive.

Here are some of the examples of places that require a 4×4 or 4WD.

Kampala to Bwindi; a high car and 4WD is highly recommended. Only the highways are paved. The roads within Bwindi connecting gorilla sectors aren’t paved and can be challenging especially during the rainy season (April to May and October to November) because you have to drive across kigezi highlands.

Kampala to Murchison Falls National Park; a 4×4 is necessary. The main road from Kampala is paved but ends when you get to Masindi town towards Ziwarhino sanctuary.

Kampala to Kidepo valley national park via sipi falls and Mount Elgon. High car highly recommended.
